Ambassador Richard Kabonero, presented his credentials to Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib, President of the Republic of Mauritius on 8th February 2017 at State House, Port Louis.

H.E. Ameenah Gurib congratulated H.E. Richard Kabonero upon presentation of his Letters of Credence and said she was very happy that Uganda now has a fully accredited High Commissioner to the Republic of Mauritius although with residence in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. She also conveyed her warmest greetings to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and the people of Uganda.

H.E. the President of Mauritius expressed her Government's appreciation for Uganda's support to Mauritius in various fora including at the African Union, COMESA, United Nations (UN) as well as the 7th Edition of the Africa economic Forum which Mauritius will host in May 2018.
On his part Ambassador Kabonero expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by Her Excellency and conveyed greetings from H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Musevei, President of the Republic of Uganda and the people of Uganda.

During their bilateral discussions the two discussed and agreed on areas of cooperation between Uganda and Mauritius including signing of a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement, cooperation in the field of ICT, Education and research, trade and investments. On trade, H.E. the President of Mauritius noted that her country is already importing cotton from Uganda and hope that the volume will be more in the near future.

The President and Ambassador Kabonero agreed on the need to conclude and sign all pending bilateral Agreements and MoUs including finalizing negotiations to align the Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation with international guidelines. 

Ambassador Kabonero who was accompanied by Oscar J. Edule, Counsellor, also held meetings with the Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Hon. Yogida SAMAYNADEN, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and a number of envoys accredited and resident in the Republic of Mauritius.
